Barbara grew up in the St. Lawrence River valley, near the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, and spent her working life as a food security expert in Washington, D.C. and Rome, Italy. Her US family rallies on the Oregon Coast, while her adopted children, all Malawians, reside in Rome, Cape Town and their native land, with their kids.
